Dawn Heiman, AuD
Doctor of Audiology
I grew up in Pennsylvania, and it was while attending a class called “Introduction to Communication Disorders” that I knew audiology was the right path for me. I started volunteering in the audiology departments in the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center and the Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh before I even applied to graduate school!
I wear a lot of hats around the office, but I primarily see patients and do my best to improve their lives with tinnitus management, hearing loss treatment, and auditory processing disorder help. I also do a lot of behind-the-scenes work running the practice, including participating in several audiology-related activities that require a few virtual meetings during the week.
One of the greatest joys of my work is helping people, something I’ve always known I wanted to do. Seeing them smile as a result of my hard work means so much!
Outside of the office, I love to spend time with my friends and family and explore trails outside. I also do distance swimming, running, and biking, along with taking my dogs to run wild at the dog park!
If you could have dinner with one person, who would you choose?
Brett Goldstein. He's a writer, actor, and comedian who I believe probably would be really enjoyable to talk to and learn from, as his background is so different from mine and his writing makes me think he has some really interesting perspectives on life.
What is your favorite sports team?
I don't really have one. I believe they are simply games that are played, and I enjoy watching a good game, but don't particularly follow any one team lately.
What is your favorite food?
Pizza!
If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would you go?
New Zealand.
What’s your all-time favorite TV show/series?
Ted Lasso.
